Using Dolls
by tamarjacobson
Looking at the article, which arrived today, and thinking that I have wanted to put this out in print for teachers, for such a long time. Yes indeed. For over 20 years. Staring at it in joy and disbelief.
Melissa takes a picture of me poring over my article in my office today. Did she catch the few tears of happiness that prickled my eyes?
Am grateful to Donna for helping make this happen. Am especially grateful to NAEYC and Teaching Young Children. It may seem small to others, but to me, who played with dolls all through my childhood, this is a very big deal.

I very much appreciate these comments.
I feel surrounded by such friendship and love.
Thanks so much!
I remember now when I passed along my Virgin Mary “dolly” and entrusted you with her care. You handled her with such “reverence” (and obviously it wasn’t because you were Catholic). I could see (but didn’t understand) in that moment how meaningful dolls were to you. Congratulations on the article! Wonderful pictures! LOVE…
It makes me cry for a lot of reasons… one is to know that I helped you to have this feeling of happiness. You did this for me, as well. Thank you.
It is a very big deal and I am so excited by it – having known you forever and remembering you using dolls as a kindergarten teacher in Ramat Hasharon – and how exciting that was then…. dreams come true ..
